The business of Saving City

Fans meeting to be held to outline the whole business of Saving City

The Supporters Trust will be holding a fans meeting on Friday 25th April (7:30pm) at The Tempest Anderson Hall in York. The event will primarily focus on the events of recent months that culminated in the Trusts rescue package saving York City from extinction.

Tickets for the event will go on sale in the Club Shop before and after the match against Kidderminster Harriers on Easter Monday. Tickets are available to any City fans for a nominal charge of 2 per ticket (to help cover costs and control numbers).

Trust spokesperson, Kirsten Gillies, said:

At the meeting, we will try and provide people with a summary of the of the Trusts business dealings over the past few months and the ultimate rescue package. The York City saga is a complex one, and trying to cram it all in to two hours will be quite a challenge.

The presentation will summarise some of the events of recent months including:

- How the Trusts rescue package was formulated and funded;
- Dealings with various parties to complete the deal;
- The relationship between the Trust and the company (York City Football Club Limited) that is now running the Club; and
- The necessary solution to the ground issue to save the Club from extinction.

Those attending will also have the opportunity to ask questions about any aspect of the rescue package that has been put in place. The meeting will be reported and information made available via the internet. Trust representatives continue to deal with a series of individual questions from supporters on a weekly basis.

For the avoidance of doubt, the meeting is being organised by the Supporters Trust to deal with Trust matters. It is not an event by York City Football Club Limited, which is the company owned by the Trust, whose football club operations are overseen by a separate Board of Directors. York City Football Club will be holding an open event for supporters in July 2003. The Trusts AGM, Fans Forum and elections are expected to be held in the last quarter of 2003.

Given that it was not possible/practical to obtain a larger venue for the event, the Tempest Anderson Hall was the best option at this time. The Tempest Anderson Hall hosted the historic inaugural public meeting in January 2002 that provided a mandate for the formation of a Supporters Trust in York. Fifteen months later, through the Supporters Trust, the fans of York City actually rescued the Club from the brink of extinction.
