"PITCH IN A POUND"

Fundraising efforts to improve the Kitkat Crescent pitch

York City Football Club & York City Supporters Trust - Media Release

Thursday 23rd February 2006

THE RETURN OF THE BUCKETS - PITCH IN A POUND ....OR MORE!!

Supporters Trust Member, Jean Fowler from Dunnington has called for the return of the collection buckets at KitKat Crescent.

The life-long City fan and the team of supporters who sit with Jean in the Popular Stand contacted the Trust Board to ask for the collection buckets to be brought back for City's forthcoming match against Forest Green on Saturday.

The Colection, which will be performed by volunteers from the Trust and the York Minstermen will be named "Pitch in a Pound...or more."  The aptly named collection will go towards the necessary refurbishments that need to be made to improve City's KitKat Crescent pitch at the end of the season.

The work required to ensure the Club's playing surface is in tiptop condition by the start of next season is set to cost around 10,000 and the Trust is asking supporters to pitch in a pound or more to help pay for the work required.

City fan, Jean Fowler, who helped to prompt the collection said, "I asked the Trust to bring the buckets back because I feel it's a great way for ordinary fans to have the chance to give what they can and make a real difference."

Jean Fowler added, "Not everyone has large sums of money to donate and not everyone is able to attend the fundraising events that take place, but the buckets mean that people have a choice to help the Club".

Ian Tyssen of the Supporters Trust Trust Board said, "We have a number of volunteers from the Trust and the York Minstermen who will be collecting for our Pitch in a Pound... or more fund on Saturday.  We hope fans will give generously to assist with the necessary pitch refurbishments which are due to take place at the end of the season."

Ian Tyssen added, "On behalf of the Trust, I would liokec to thank Jean Fowler for prompting the collection and also all the volunteers whio will be assisting on Saturday."

The Supporters Trust confirmed it is likely the "bucketeers" will return again before the season ends to try to collect more funds for their pitch improvement campaign.
