Trust News 18/09/05 - Trust Board Elections

Volunteer to help York City

Billy's Team has given us a great start to the season.  After so much struggle, this has provided a great lift to everyone asociated with the Club - particularly those who have invested so much time, effort, money and passion over the past three to four years.  Long may it continue.

Once again, it is (already!) getting towards that time of year when City supporters have the opportunity to stand for election to the Trust Board and to help contribute towards the running of York City.

There will be four Trust Board positions "up for grabs" ahead of the Trust's December AGM. The three existing Board Members who are required to stand down by rotation under the Trust's Rules will be Graham Kilby, Kirsten Ovenden (nee Gillies) and Mike Shannon.  Each of the three can, if they choose, stand for re-election. In addition, there will be a fourth position given Dave Potters resignation from the Trust Board earlier this year due to other commitments.

Trust Secretary Stan Collins commented:

"York City is one of only a handful of Clubs owned and controlled by its supporters.  The Trust and the Club rely on the support and involvement of supporters and the Trust Board elections are an important aspect of that involvement. We need people to contribute to the business of running the Trust itself, fulfilling the Trust's role in respect of the Club, and to also help us provide asistance to the Club Board."

You have to be a member of the Trust by 30th September to be eligible to stand for election and top vote -so far those people yet to join or renew their membership, please do so (forms available via or visit the information desk at the Club Shop) As in previous year's, an Election Working Group (independent of the Trust Board) will oversee the running of the election in accordance with the Election Rules (copies available on the Trust's website and on request)

Currently, Trust Secretary Stan Collins is looking for a small group of volunteers to form the EWG. It will involve a few hours per month up until the AGM. The first meeting wil be on the evening of Wednesday 21 September. If you are interested in helping the EWG, please contact Stan Collins via or write to YCST.

If you are interested in becoming a Trust Board Member, but would like to discuss the matter first to better understand the role and time commitment, please contact the Trust Secretary or any Trust Board Member.. We would be very pleased to speak to you. The current Trust Board comprises City supporters with a variety of age, backgrounds and careers. The election is open to all eligible Trust Members. The Trust could particularly benefit from contributions to fundraising efforts, communications, the treasurer role and general business experience.

In due course, the closing date for nominations to the Trust Board will be notified by he EWG and thereafter details of the individuals who have put themselves forward for election will be circulated to all Trust members along with further notice of the AGM. If required , voting will take place by postal ballot in November. Last year, there were four candidates for the four Trust Board positions, so there was no need for a ballot.

Any member wishing to propose a members resolution for consideration at the AGM should write to the Trust Secretary and include the form and content of the resolution. It is suggested you also refer to the Trust Rules. Such notice should be signed by the proposer and two other members and submitted by 16th October 2005. Again, if you would prefer to speak to the Trust Secretary or a Trust Board Member in the first instance, please get in touch.
