Trust membership for 2005/06
Trust membership for 2005/06

Supporting City

As the football season is about to kick off for the new look City Team, Citys Trust is seeking to recruit more members to swell the ranks.  The Trusts annual membership period runs to 30 June each year and as City fans return for another football season, the Trust hopes they will also sign up again to support the Trust.

Trust Board Member Richard Snowball commented: Citys Trust is one of only a small handful of trusts that owns and controls its football club and were encouraging people to join us to help maintain a strong base for the future benefit of York City.  Whether youre a City fan or not, we encourage anyone who wants to support their local community football club to please support us.  Maintaining and growing our membership base is a key challenge for the future.

The number of Life Members of Citys Trust is now approaching 500 (up from 476 at 30 June 2005), several new members have joined for the first time in recent weeks, and over 60% of annual members had renewed their 10 annual membership by the end of July giving an overall membership of over 1,100.   That still leaves around 300 annual members yet to renew their membership for 2005/06, plus membership remains open for others to join.

Membership forms for 2005/06 can be downloaded from the Trusts website and via the following link http://www.ycst.org.uk/ycst_membership_form_2005-6.pdf .  Before and after Citys first home match of the 2005/06 season on Saturday, people will be able to visit the Trusts new information point in the Club Shop to become a member or make any enquiries they might have about the Trust and York City.

Membership of Citys Trust had peaked at just over 2,000 against the backdrop of the crisis for survival in 2002 and 2003, when the Trust had generated a very significant level of membership from amongst the clubs fanbase, the local community and other interested parties.  As the experience of other supporters trusts has shown, membership levels decline after the apparent urgency of an initial crisis and dropped to around 1,400 for 2004/05.  There are now around 120 supporters trusts in the UK, with the average membership level being around 600 people.

Benefits of Trust membership include

l                    An ownership stake in the Trust, the body that owns the Football Club and which, since February 2005, now also owns Bootham Crescent;

l                    Working together with other City fans to help the Club build for the future, including helping to put in place a new stadium in the city;

l                    Membership of what is widely regarded as one of the pre-eminent supporters trusts in the UK and a former winner of Trust of the Season;

l                    Voting power for the Trust Board, and the option to stand for election;

l                    An opportunity to be invited to a match as a special guest of the Club Board;

l                    Communications about York City business (meetings, newsletters, website, media, etc); and

l                    A series of preferential discounts from local businesses.

Maintaining YCST as one of the best supported trusts in the country provides York City with

l                    More fundraising, which is a vital element for the Clubs future success;

l                    A depth and breadth of support for a club now owned and run by supporters for the fans and the wider community; and

l                    More credibility, influence and a more powerful voice within the city of York.
