KitKat, York City's new community partner
KitKat, York City's new community partner

Supporting City

Statement issued by York City Football Club

York City Football Club today announced they have entered into a two year partnership with major York employer, Nestl Rowntree.

Nestl Rowntree is to provide the club with the necessary funds they require to enable the Minstermen to conclude the deal to acquire their Bootham Crescent home.

In a show of gratitude, York City Football Club has in exchange offered Nestl Rowntree the naming rights for the ground for the calendar years 2005 and 2006. The clubs home is therefore to be re-named KitKat Crescent, with the KitKat brand set to have a significantly greater presence at the club.

York City Managing Director Jason McGill said, This is a fantastic show of support from Nestl Rowntree. We are all extremely excited about the partnership and look forward to developing it further over the next two years.

McGill added, The financial assistance they are providing is greatly appreciated and will enable us to finalise the deal to acquire the ground next month. Nestl Rowntree has stepped to the forefront at a crucial time for York City and has shown their total commitment to the community and football in the City of York.

The partnership will also see a host of other potential tie ups. Nestl Rowntree will be providing the services of a marketing consultant to help the club improve attendances and increase revenue.

The relationship between Nestl Rowntree and York City Football Club may also see the construction of an electronic scoreboard at KitKat Crescent, as well as an increase in programme advertising and pitch side perimeter signage.

The partnership is set to kick-off immediately, with members of the playing squad due to visit the KitKat production department at the Nestl Rowntree site tomorrow. This visit will give the players and management the opportunity to meet the factory employees and see how the famous KitKat is produced.

This will then be followed on Saturday by a visit to KitKat Crescent from senior Nestl management. At half-time during the game against Morecambe, they will present the York City Board of Directors with a presentation cheque, and in turn, the Nestl contingent will be given a signed limited edition print of the ground.

Commenting on the re-naming of the ground, Jason McGill said, KitKat Crescent was the obvious choice of name for the ground as the product is manufactured in York and like KitKat, Citys home strip is red and white. We felt it was important to maintain the word Crescent instead of Stadium or Park and hope our supporters are pleased with the new name and are proud the club is associated with such a prestigious brand.

The new partnership follows Nestls previous sponsorship of the York City Family Stand and Family Room.
