Fundraising to support City

Following a recent meeting of Trust Board and Club Board members and individuals from other fans groups, a new fundraising team has been created to provide planning & organisation to raise much needed cash for York City Football Club.

It was agreed that the team will meet on a regular basis to plan and discuss forthcoming events and to ensure the fundraising target of 30,000 minimum is met by the end of the season.

During the meeting an events timetable was discussed. The new team plan to hold one major fundraising event each month and are appealing to supporters for volunteer assistance with projects and any innovative fundraising ideas they may have.

Kirsten Gillies from the Board of the Supporters' Trust was asked to head the team and provide help and support to all fans wanting to assist with fundraising projects.
Kirsten will be the first point of contact for all fans, and will co-ordinate the events calendar and availability of Club facilities

The fundraising team also consists of:

Peter Rookes, Trust Board member, will report on the fundraising targets set and
current financial standings.

Ian Savage will become the Volunteers Manager. Ian will be responsible for
liaising with volunteers to ascertain their availability for certain

Andrew Leathley (Daley Mayall, editor of GLF fanzine), Andrew will
provide much needed experience in designing and producing any literature/tickets required for events.

Graham Bradbury, who currently organises Sporting Dinners will continue to
champion this area of fundraising.

Dave Potter (secretary of the newly formed York Minstermen) will manage the
Social Club bar when any events are held there.

Steve Gartside (Harrogate Minstermen) will provide support for publicising
events on the various websites associated with the Club.

The group hopes to provide a more productive approach to fundraising. At
present a small number of volunteers assist with events, but by providing a
more simplistic and streamlined approach to fundraising, the new team hope other City
fans will now get involved and help to share the load.

Speaking after the meeting Kirsten Gillies said 'This core group provides a
sound basis on which to progress the whole aspect of fundraising for the
Trust and Club. This is by no means the full group, and anyone wishing to get
more involved in fundraising is asked to contact me as soon as possible as
we would welcome more assistance.

Gillies also confirmed that the team are in the process of producing a
fundraising pack for anyone wishing to get involved in fundraising activities. Once
produced, these will be available on the Trust website and at Bootham

Gillies said, The pack will contain information to provide support for fans who
have an idea and have the time to organise the event/scheme themselves. Practical, workable forms will also be available to assist with the planning of events. That said, fans
are not expected to work alone on any ideas, and this team is on hand to
offer support to those who require it'.

York City Finance Director, Terry Doyle said, The Club welcomes the efforts by the Trust to ensure effective fundraising initiatives are in place for next season. Fundraising is vital to York City and we are confident the new fundraising team will surpass our target of 30,000 by June next year.

Doyle added, The events schedule Kirsten and the team are producing will ensure the fundraising activities planned will appeal to all aspects of our fan base and will also engage the local business community. We hope everyone will support these events throughout the season.

The new fundraising team announced the first major event in their fundraising calendar in the Clubs Open Day on Sunday 25th July. Full details of the event and the activities planned will be announced in due course.

For supporters wishing to get involved, a Volunteers & Idea's form has been created for fans to complete and return to:
