Think Tank's "Trust in Football"
Think Tank's

Britain's leading progressive think tank advocate a stronger role for trusts in football

ippr, one of Britain's leading progressive think tank, has launched a publication Trust in Football, which examines the current state of the Game and whether supporters' trusts provide a viable answer to football's ills.

Since their launch in 1999, under the umbrella of Supporters Direct over 100 supporters' trusts have been formed and of these 32 have some form of shareholding in their club and 22 have supporters on the board. These trusts have been set up to stengthen the relationship between fans, clubs and the community they serve.

York City is one of just a few cases where the Trust is the majority owner of their football club, forming a community club run as not-for-profit.

In the case of York City, the Club Board comprises a balance of 3 democratically elected members from the Trust Board (Steve Beck, Sophie McGill and Mike Brown) supplemented by three further Trust members with specific roles to play. These are Terry Doyle (Finance Director), Ian McAndrew (Stadium Director) and Jason McGill (Commercial Director).
