From the match programme on 13 April

Trust News, taken from the match programme against Bury on Tuesday 13 April...

Welcome to Our Bootham Crescent Home for another vital match in York Citys Battle for Survival.  During the 90 minutes of the Match, please help encourage and support Your York City Team against our friends from Bury.

Looking back at the first quarter of 2003, there were times when many people had written off the chances of York City being able to survive the crisis.  A crisis that had largely been brought about by financial mismanagement and the threat of been ousted from Bootham Crescent.  A year ago, together, we overcame those hurdles.

Ahead of this season, with the odds stacked against the Club in so many ways, it was always expected to be a financial struggle, whilst at the same time the battle for Bootham Crescent was being fought behind the scenes.  And on the pitch, survival in Division Three was the primary aim.  Now, with just a few games remaining, everyone at York City needs to fight for survival in The Football League.  Weve done it before and we can do it again.  Come on lads do us proud.

Supporting City

A quick mention for the group of City fans in the first section of the Popular Stand at our last home match.  Unfortunately 90 minutes of non-stop noise and support was not rewarded by the right result but please, keep it up!   In todays Trust News, without mentioning many names, we note examples of a variety of events that, once again, highlight the commitment of Our Supporters.  None of these things could happen without folk volunteering their time and commitment.

l                    The latest Ginners Left Foot is now available.  Its a special colour edition to celebrate being able to stay at Bootham Crescent and 20 years since being crowned Division Four Champions.  Buy a copy now have a good read and help raise some more funds for the Trust.

l                    Junior Reds membership has topped 400 this season the highest for over a decade.  Junior Red Club nights take place each month the latest one was last week in the Family Room at BC - and throughout the season they have been well supported by players and members alike.

l                    The David Longhurst Challenge Quiz will take place at BC on 22nd April (8pm).

l                    Curry & Comedian Night planned in the Social Club on Friday 23rd April.  Tickets on sale in the Club Shop.  All welcome.

l                    Since their formation, the vibrant Harrogate Minstermen have been a credit to City supporters and demonstrate how a well organised supporters group can contribute positively to City.  They organise regular meetings, with City guests, and all are welcome.

l                    City fan Geoff Hughes is planning a week-long sponsored tour of 92 football club grounds (plus our friends at AFC Wimbledon) ending at Swansea for Citys last match of the season.  The added twist is that it will all be done (hopefully!) in his trusty 36 year old Morris Minor.  And all instigated and organised by Geoff to help raise funds to support City.

l                    The Fans Match will take place at Bootham Crescent on Sunday 9th May.  A collection of City fans have each paid hundreds of pounds to take part.  Over 10,000 has been raised so far.

l                    The London & South group of City Supporters will be holding their AGM & quiz on 13th May.

l                    The YCST Sporting Dinner will be held at York Racecourse on 17th May.  Tickets now on sale.

Anyone out there prepared to do something for City, please do so.  Your Club needs your support.  If you want some assistance, please contact anyone at the Club or the Trust.  For more information about the Trust and/or any of these events, contact the Trust c/o Bootham Crescent and/or visit the Trust website at www.ycst.org.uk

The Trusts own finances

Between July 2003 and the end of March 2004, through a variety of ways, supporters have contributed over 40,000 to the Trust.  In turn, the Trust has now, this season, made a total of 20,000 of donations to the Club to assist the financial position during what was always going to be a very challenging season.  The latest donation to make it up to 20k is an amount of 5,000.  Also during the same period, the Trust has incurred various costs (of around 10,000) in relation to its operations and events.  The Trust hopes to make further donations to the Club in due course, but is entirely reliant on the efforts of supporters to fulfil this aim.

The Trusts current membership year completes in June 2004.  The Trust now has over 2,000 current members, including 411 Life Members.  Within the next few months the Trust will be appealing for folk to renew their membership.  It is to be hoped that City Supporters can continue to make YCST the best supported trust in the country.
