Feeder club juniors attend City match

City's feeder clubs

It was second time lucky - or some might say "unlucky" - for over 200 members of Poppleton Junior Football Club who visited BC on Sunday for the match against Macclesfield.

Previously, they had been set to visit and watch the Yeovil match, before the rain came down.

Formed in the early 1970s Poppleton JFC had a relatively stable number of members from the ages of 10yrs to 16 yrs until 1992 when membership dropped to 30 playing competitive matches in 2 age groups. Today, however, the Club boasts over 300 paid up members, including 35 girls, between the ages of 5 and 17, and competes in all the local junior leagues. There is no membership selection on ability or other grounds.

The Club is run entirely by volunteers with currently about 40 managers, coaches and officers of the Club. The coaches have FA coaching and First Aid qualifications and the Club has a Child Protection Policy managed by a Child Protection Officer. These are just some of the requirements of the FA Charter Community Standard which the Club gained in December 2003.
Poppleton Junior Football Club is now amongst the first 150 clubs in the country to achieve the prestigious FA Community Club status and today along with the presentation of a plaque to mark their official Feeder Club status they are to be acknowledged for their achievements.
