Trust members can be nominated for Trust Board election

Citys Trust is looking for nominations to stand for election to the Trust Board ahead of its December AGM.

Trust Secretary Stan Collins commented:
There are four Trust Board positions up for grabs. The results will be announced at the AGM on 17th December at the Grand Opera House. All Trust members have both the opportunity to stand for election themselves and, when the time comes, to vote for their fellow supporters.

Collins added:
This election is for people to serve on the Trust Board, but who knows, in future this could lead to you becoming a director of the Football Club itself.

The election for the four positions will take place by postal ballot during the few weeks preceding the 17th December AGM. The process is being conducted in line with the Trusts Election Rules, overseen by an Elections Working Group (comprising Trust volunteers) and the ballot will be run by an independent body (called Electoral Reform Services). Nomination forms will soon be available from the Club and from the Trusts website

The Election Working Group is planning to distribute an election information pack to all members. To help save on postage costs, Trust Members are encouraged to collect their pack from the Trust at Citys next home match against Cambridge United on 4th October (before and after the game). For anyone unable to collect their pack personally on 4th October, it will be sent out by post.

In June last year, over 400 members attended the Trusts first AGM at which 11 candidates were voted to the Board following a turnout of around 65% of the electorate. Since then, Trust membership has grown even further, and current membership is almost 2,000. This makes York City probably the best-supported Trust in the country, out of over 100 such trusts that have now been established. Of course, since the completion of its amazing Rescue Package in March 2003, these days the Trust actually owns the Club. Amongst a range of responsibilities, the Trust Board oversees the operations of the Club on behalf of the supporters and the community.

There are four existing Trust Board members who will be seeking re-election:

  • Peter Rookes, who is currently filling a casual vacancy on the Trust Board, and is required to stand for election by the Trusts Rules;

  • Ian Hey, a co-opted Board member who has chosen to stand for election; and

  • Sophie McGill and Paul Rawnsley, chosen at random from the remaining nine elected Trust Board members, to stand for re-election.

  • Supporters considering standing for election must be a Trust member as at 30 September 2003, over sixteen years of age, willing and able to attend regular Trust Board meetings, able to comply with the criteria set out in the Rules of the Trust and willing and able to contribute constructively and positively to achieve the aims of the Trust and work in the interests of the community.

    For the avoidance of doubt, the elections and AGM are for the Supporters Trust, not the Football Club (which is a separate legal entity, owned by the Trust).
    The operations of York City Football Club Limited are overseen by the Clubs Board of Directors, not the Trust Board. The Clubs operations are carried out by the Clubs employees, supplemented by a range of unpaid volunteers that include, but are not restricted to, the six fans on the Clubs Board.
