From the Boardroom - Jason McGill talks about City
From the Boardroom - Jason McGill talks about City

Extract from match programme of 20 March

Extract of Programme Notes from the match programme against Yeovil (20/03/04) We welcome today the directors, players, staff and supporters of Yeovil Town FC. I am particularly pleased to receive our friends from Yeovil who were so kind to all connected with York City on our first visit to Huish Park earlier in the season. Yeovil are an outstanding and welcome addition to the Football League. You will all understand that the main task and recent efforts of the Board have been directed almost full-time at securing Bootham Crescent as the home for the Club for the foreseeable future, and I am pleased to report that the legal formalities are almost completed and that we expect to be making final announcements shortly. Now that we have overcome this major hurdle, we are focussing our efforts on other major initiatives which are necessary as the next stage in securing future success for the Club. I would like to update our supporters and sponsors on some of the developments. Our main sponsors, Phoenix Software, have shown us fantastic support this season and have made a substantial contribution by their involvement in our Community Club. Through necessity, because of the ground issue, Phoenix involvement was restricted to the 2003/2004 season, but we hope to maintain a strong relationship with Phoenix next season and into the future. We have also established stronger links with Nike and we are developing ideas between us, including additions to the product range next season. Our 2003/2004 playing kit has been praised not only by our supporters, but by the general football community and by our players. I believe that this demonstrates that as a smaller Club we must always aim high and promote only quality products and services. We continue our efforts in the Community and the Festival Game was an outstanding success both financially and by family involvement. A most gratifying aspect was participation by our previous players, ranging from representatives from the 1955 Cup semi-final side to Paul Stancliffe, currently the major link in our youth development programme. The Board consider previous players to be an important part of the Team. They are very welcome at the Club and we thank them all for their time, efforts and dedication in helping the Community cause. The Board are considering repeating this event as an annual celebration of our Community Club. The Board also wish to pay tribute to Chris Brass and Lee Nogan.Their efforts this season have been tireless on and off the pitch. It is incredible how much work they put in in the background, searching for new talent and additions to the squad, as well as their media and Community commitments. Chris, in his 1st year of management, has operated in very difficult circumstances and with limited financial resources. We thank him for his outstanding efforts. It is nearly the first anniversary of the Trust taking ownership of the Club. Much has been achieved. We started the season with the key objectives of survival, with planned major stabilisation in 2004/2005. Bootham Crescent has been secured and we have turned around the disastrous financial position of the Club. We can now determine our own future, seek every commercial advantage and overtake the lost opportunities of the past. Thank you for your continuing support and keep the faith. Sadly, Steve Becks father died this week and everyone at the Club sends their condolences to Steve and Carol in their bereavement.
