Seagulls' Stadium Situation
Seagulls' Stadium Situation

Brighton fans need your support

We at York know only too well what a trauma it is to be faced with potentially crippling problems surrounding the future of where your club is going to play its football. Brighton & Hove Albion are currently facing problems somewhat different to the Bootham Crescent issue, but City fans should still be able to empathize with their Albion counterparts.

At present, Brighton still reside at the Withdean Stadium. Some of you may remember a delightful injury time lob by Matt Hocking there a few years ago! But efforts to relocate to a purpose built stadium at Falmer (design pictured) are being hampered by the threat of rejection of the planning permission.

As part of the continuing campaign to secure Falmer, the Falmer For All Campaign has printed a special postcard to send to MPs at Westminster on behalf of football fans all over the country. You can view the card at the link below.

However, to support this campaign you do not need to print off and send the card yourself. Tim Carder from the FFA campaign explains: "This is a VERY important weapon in the battle for the new stadium, but we do need large numbers of people to sign the cards. The only practical and economic way to do this is to gather names and postcodes of people willing to sign, enter those names ourselves, then send them off to Westminster. This is so we can track how many are sent, and to preserve costs as much as we can."

Liz from FFA added: "What we now need are names of friends/relatives (football fans) who live in or around the York area to give us permission to use their names and post codes so that we can send one of the cards to their [Labour] MP in their name, in the hope that he/she (the respective MP) will give Prescott a little nudge, reminding him that football is a NATIONAL sport. The local plan Inspector wrote in his report that Brighton is only a provincial club and not in the national interest to survive! Patently not accurate, but Prescott has to be reminded of that fact."

If any City fans are willing to provide Liz with their details, she - and Brighton - would be very grateful. Liz's email is
