Building Trust between Community & Club

ATTENDANCES UP

While some have speculated that football popularity has reached its peak, and that the blanket coverage by the TV networks, is ruining the game as a spectator event, the Nationwide League has produced some very interesting stats to suggest otherwise. Attendances so far this season are up across all three divisions, with York Citys 3rd Division showing the most startling increase at 26% for the month of August. The club itself are averaging in excess of 4000 fans per game. These new or returning fans must be encouraged to sign up with YCST, both to make the Trust and therefore the club stronger, and also to make everyone feel more involved with their club. You as existing members can help with this by reminding your friends that they can pick up application forms from the Bootham Crescent club shop, or visit the Trusts website www.ycst.org.uk . All City fans who are YCST members as at 30 September 2003 will have both the opportunity to stand for election to the Trust Board and the opportunity to vote in November/December for the fellow City fans they wish to represent them.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EXETERS TRUST

With the fate of several clubs including Notts County and Oldham ever increasingly in the balance, there was at least some fantastic news from the south coast. Gone from the Football League they may be (for the time being at least), but Exeter City have recently joined that exclusive band of clubs owned by its Supporters Trust. Whilst the club are not yet out of the woods financially, this represents a huge step forward for them. Trust chairman Ian Huxham said: "This is the best possible news. It represents the dawn of a new era for our football club. Now its time for everyone who, like me, cares passionately about Exeter City to rally behind the club and ensure its future is a long and prosperous one. YCST extend their congratulations and very best wishes to the Grecians in what is a greatly exciting time for them.

ANTI-RACISM GRANT OBTAINED

You will probably have already read that York City were awarded a grant of 705 from the Kick It Out campaign. The Football Foundation were only offering 30 grants in total, so it is an impressive achievement and marks a break from the clubs previous stance, when they were infamously the only professional club not to sign up to KIOs predecessors, the Kick Racism Out Of Football campaign. This grant money will be used to fund events during the planned Anti-racism week which will take place during October. More details were in the match programme and to follow.

WALWYN COLLECTION

YCST recently received a letter of thanks from the Cardiac Services department of the Fylde & Wyre Hospitals, Blackpool, for the donation by City fans to their Cardiology Endowment Fund. 1400 was raised through a bucket collection held in the memory of the late, great Keith Walwyn. This money will help to purchase new equipment for the department, which will benefit even more patients in the future. The letter also thanked Mrs Walwyn for requesting that the money raised was donated to the Cardiology Endowment Fund. Huge thanks must be extended to those who organised the buckets once again, and of course to everyone who made a donation to this very worthy cause.
