YCST offer assistance to Darlo Trust

YCST Board Members speak at crisis meeting in Darlington

York City Supporters' Trust Board members Kirsten Gillies & Steve Ovenden attended a crisis meeting at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington on Tuesday night (20th Jan) to offer advice to the Darlo Trust.

They were also joined by representatives of Notts County Trust.

Both Trusts spoke of their experiences over the last 2 years and about their efforts to save their beloved clubs. This involved offering advice on the Administration process, Fundraising and how important it is for fans to pull together to play their part.

The evening attracted over 400 concerned Darlington supporters who have now been tasked with raising money to enable their Trust to reach their target of 250,000 pounds.

It was an emotionally charged evening, nearing that of ours at the Barbican Centre (Feb 2002). On the night they raised over 2,000 pounds by way of an auction, raffle and new members.

Also there was former Darlo & YCFC player Kevan Smith, who paid tribute to the Fans of York City on what they have achieved. Those thoughts were echoed by Supporters Direct Director Sean Hamill.

Both Trusts received a standing ovation after their speeches.

In a radio interview after the meeting Kirsten said "Having been in their current position and having experienced both the worry of the situation and subsequently benefitting from the help of Supporters Direct and other established Trusts ourselves, whilst we were saddened to learn of Darlo's plight, we were only too willing to offer our help".

This meeting is the second meeting that Kirsten & Steve have spoken at. The other, a couple of months ago was also attended by Ian Hey.

Steve also confirmed to everyone present that York City will have a bucket collection for Darlo Trust at their forthcoming home game against Huddersfield Town this Sunday (25th Jan).
