Record turnout for Trust Board elections
Record turnout for Trust Board elections

4 City fans elected to Trust Board

ON THE TRUST BOARD

Four City fans have been voted onto the Trust Board following a record number of votes cast.

Sophie McGill, Stephen Ovenden, Paul Rawnsley and Peter Rookes were the candidates receiving the most votes as over 1,000 people voted in the Trusts second election. The turnout was 25% up on the previous year and is one of the highest ever turnouts amongst the UKs Supporters Trusts.

In total, 1,053 Trust members voted and the seven candidates received the following number of votes:

McGILL, Sophie 917 ELECTED
RAWNSLEY, Paul 807 ELECTED
OVENDEN, Steve 649 ELECTED
ROOKES, Peter 566 ELECTED
HEY, Ian 491
GRANT, Mike 361
ORMSTON, Frank 233

Paul Rawnsley and Sophie McGill were re-elected to the Trust Board and polled the most number of votes. Peter Rookes and Stephen Ovenden have been elected to the Trust Board for the first time.

Sophie McGill, who is also one of the Trusts elected representatives on the Football Club Board, welcomed the result:
I am delighted to have been re-elected to the Trust Board and would like to thank all the members who voted for me. My re-election enables me to continue the community and communications work I have undertaken on behalf of the Trust. This result is also testimony to my role as a Club director. It is great to know so many fans support and acknowledge the efforts we are making to create a true community football club on a sound and secure financial footing.

Paul Rawnsley, the Trust Board member who led the development and implementation of the Trusts Rescue Package earlier this year, commented: With much hard work and commitment Yorks Trust has achieved a great deal over the past couple of years. The hard work continues, in particular to try and deliver a solution to stay at Bootham Crescent at least until theres a better alternative available.

Steve Ovenden commented I am delighted to have been elected. Thanks to everyone who voted . With an increased turn out of voters the real winners are the Trust and democracy.

Peter Rookes, previously co-opted onto the Trust Board and now elected by the members, commented: I will continue the work already underway to help ensure a bright future for York City and all of its supporters.

Thanks and appreciation go to all of the candidates who stood for election to the Trust Board and to the team of volunteers on the Election Working Group who helped to ensure the smooth running and good conduct of the election process.
