Club requests extention to Bootham Crescent Lease


The Board of York City Football Club has now formally approached Bootham Crescent Holdings Plc for an extension to the tenancy agreement for the Bootham Crescent ground until May 2005.

Because of the complex planning issues, particularly requirements for traffic impact assessment and ground safety regulations, the planning application to the City of York Council has been unavoidably delayed. It is now finally evident that the redevelopment of Huntington Stadium will not be completed in time for the start of the 2004/2005 season.

The Football Club Board had been unable to formerly approach Bootham Crescent Holdings Plc for an extension to the licence until the planning application had been submitted. Since requesting the extension, the Club has received correspondence from Bootham Crescent Holdings Plc advising them that they are not prepared to consider the possibility of an extension until such time as Planning Approvals have been received.

Commenting on the situation, City Commercial Director, Jason McGill, said, It is clear from the response from Bootham Crescent Holdings we will not be in a position to negotiate an extension to the lease until planning consent is granted. We are however hopeful York City will be playing at Bootham Crescent next season and the Board remains fully committed to finding a solution to our ground problem.
