Trust publishes the amazing story

York City...at the heart of the community

Citys Supporters Trust is publishing the amazing story of how the supporters saved York City. York Cityat the Heart of the Community covers the Trusts achievements during the very eventful period since it was formed in January 2002.

The publication includes:
- key dates in the City saga;
- a summary of the Clubs finances from 1996 to 2004;
- how the ownership of Citys Bootham Crescent home was stripped from the Club;
- how the Club was driven to the brink of extinction;
- the Trusts own Accounts revealing the 1/2 million raised;
- details about how the Trusts Rescue Package was successfully concluded;
- about the new Trust-Club structure now in place;
- information about each of the Trust and Club board members; and
- more about how York City is delivering the Community Vision.

There are over 30 personal contributions from a mixture of City fans and local and national figures, including one from David Conn, National Newspaper Journalist and Author, who comments:

Yorks story over the past couple of years shows the depths of loyalty felt by so many people for the Club, and the extraordinary time, effort, passion and expertise the supporters were and are prepared to put in to save it from needless destruction. In doing that, they have realised how much more there is to the Club than a series of fixtures; that it is there for the whole community and people of York. Their work has been an example to Supporters everywhere.

The publication includes comments from Sir Brian Mawhinney MP, Chairman of The Football League:

The supporters of York City deserve a particular clap on the back. I do not think the Club would still be viable if it were not for the supporters.

Dave Boyle, from Supporters Direct, who helped in the formation of Yorks Trust in the early days, proclaims the work of City fans as being a shining example to others:

York City was saved by the only people who cared for it as a community institution and not as a potential money-spinner.

Steve Gartside from the vibrant Harrogate Minstermen supporter group welcomes the much needed wind-of-change that has swept through the Club:
From the adversity came an unyielding inner strength, together with an unshakeable resolve to take this Football Club forward.

City fan and Trust Secretary Stan Collins comments:
There may be a few more difficult hurdles ahead, but remember, nothing is impossible.

The colour publication has being compiled ahead of the Trusts December AGM and will be distributed to the Trusts 2,000 members. Copies will be made available for collection by Trust members at Citys next home match at Bootham Crescent on 29th November. Members unable to pick up a copy that day will receive a copy by post in December.

To help further promote the work and role of the Trust and the Community Vision of the new York City, copies are also being distributed to many local organisations and to various parties within the UKs Football Community.
