City's Feeder Clubs

City build links with local amateur game

York City first announced its Feeder Club initiative on 29th March 2003, just a day after the Trusts Rescue Package was completed.

Graham Kilby, from the Trust Board and a co-founder of City Youth Development Fund, comments:
We have worked to put in place the feeder clubs initiative to help build better links between the Football Club and the local amateur game, particularly at youth level. There are benefits for both the local clubs and for York City.

The affiliated clubs for the 2003/04 season are:
- Copmanthorpe
- Pocklington
- Hamilton Panthers
- Stamford Bridge
- Poppleton
- New Earswick

The main objectives of the arrangements are to:
- Build better links between York City and the local community
- Aid development of amateur and youth football in the York area
- Provide York based footballers with better access to the professional game

The feeder clubs should seek to:
- Offer excellent sports facilities
- Help raise the profile of YCFC within the local community
- Identify potential players to play football at a professional level

As part of scheme, during the course of the season each Feeder Club is entitled to a Club Day Out at Bootham Crescent to watch a Game. The under 16s are admitted free and the adults pay.

For instance, when the Copmanthorpe youngsters attended a match in October they were accompanied by over 50 adults. Hopefully, many of those will come back again as regular supporters in the future. The boys from Hamilton Panthers will be attending the Swansea City game on 29th November.
