Minstermen Against Racism
Minstermen Against Racism

York City......more than just a Football Team

York Citys Anti-Racism Week of Action kicks off this Saturday at the home game against Boston United.

As part of the Clubs proactive anti-racism campaign, City will be encouraging home and away supporters to sign up to their anti-racism pledge. Volunteers will be there to collect signatures before the game.

Saturday will also see the launch of the clubs new anti-racism leaflet, Minstermen Against Racism. The leaflets will be handed out to fans by Trust volunteers and will be available in the Club Shop. After the week of action, City also hope to see the leaflets in doctors surgeries, police stations and local schools throughout the city.

City Communications Director Sophie McGill said,

We really hope fans will support our anti-racism activities. Now that we are a true community club we want to welcome and encourage all sections of the community. We have already established links with the Safer York Partnership and the York Racial Equality Network and are making great strides to assist the fight against racism in our city.

This week the club has received almost 100 entries for their anti-racism poster competition. The top 20 posters judged by Chris Brass and Lee Nogan will be shown around the ground, with the winning designers invited to be ball boys and girls at our next two games.

Citys Lee Nogan said, The posters we have received have been fantastic. The children have put a lot of effort into their designs. As a player who has received racial abuse in the past, I think its great that the club, the Trust and the community are working together to promote anti-racism in the city.

As part of the players contribution to National Anti-Racism Week of Action, they will be wearing Kick It Out t-shirts when warming up before the Boston and Oxford United games.

Citys anti-racism activities have been funded by a Foootball Foundation grant and supported by Lets Kick Racism Out of Football.
