Supporters' Direct AGM

Following the recent Manager of the Month award to Terry Dolan, York City could be in line for further honours when Supporters' Trust representatives attend the 'Trust of the Season' Awards on Thursday 12 September

Speaking ahead of his attendance at the London event, Supporters' Trust Board member Steve Beck said
"We are hopeful that York City can pick up another award as further recognition of the massive achievements of the City fans over the course of this year."

The 'Trust of the Season' Awards have been organised by Supporters' Direct, the government funded body that assists groups of supporters to organise themselves to have a positive input into the ownership and operation of their football club. York City Supporters' Trust made its submission for the award a couple of months ago.

The London event will host representatives from clubs around the country. There are now over fifty separate Supporters' Trusts in the UK. There will be a series of workshops covering the organisation and operation of Supporters' Trusts. The event is also being attended by speakers such as The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and Professor Derek Fraser, Chair of the Independent Football Commission.

Based on their knowledge of City's Trust, Supporters' Direct have invited City representatives to present a workshop regarding 'Communication with Members'. City Trust members Kirsten Gillies and Paul Rawnsley are attending the event together with Steve Beck.

York City Supporters' Trust originated from the Save City Campaign that was kicked off by the Evening Press last December. The Campaign and the Supporters' Trust have been acclaimed for helping to save City from the threat of closure from the former owners of the Club. In addition, the Supporters' Trust has helped to increase support for the Club within the region.

The Supporters' Trust has an agreement with John Batchelor whereby, amongst other matters, the Supporters' Trust will acquire 25.1% of the ownership of the Club (and, if appropriate, whatever entity owns the ground) for a relatively small consideration, plus be able to nominate two individuals to serve as Directors of the Club (and, if appropriate, whatever entity owns the ground). Discussions between Trust representatives and John Batchelor continue to put in place these aspects of the agreement at the earliest opportunity.
