Variety of Trust News from Match Programme (7th Dec)

Building Trust between Community and Club

Thanks go to all those who arranged and supported the Trusts Auction last week. The event raised over 6,500 to help go towards the Trusts work. The framed and signed Ronaldo shirt went for over 1,000. A good night was had by all, hosted by Steve Ovenden a.k.a. City mascot Yorkie.

Thanks also to representatives from the group Friends of Bootham Crescent, who last week stepped in to help organise a bucket collection at the Carlisle United match. Over 4,000 was raised. Again, this will go towards funding the Trusts aims. The aims of the Trust include working to ensure professional football is continued in York and working to secure representation for supporters in the future ownership and operation of Yorks football club.

If anyone has any fundraising ideas or even better is willing to organise a fundraising event and make it happen then please get in touch with any of the Trusts Board or Working Party members; or e-mail; or write to the Trust c/o Bootham Crescent, York.

The Friends of Bootham Crescent have orchestrated a number of profile-raising events during recent weeks to help protect the future of Bootham Crescent as a home for football in York at least until a better alternative is in place. That was particularly demonstrated by the rousing reception for the group during the half-time interval at the Swansea game well done to those involved.

The Trust also applauds the work and efforts of the Harrogate Minstermen over the course of this year. In recent weeks they have been raising the profile of the issues facing City in their local area. And last Monday they organised a great party for City fans that was enjoyed by all who attended. Nice one HM!

Later this month, BCH will be having their AGM at Bootham Crescent for all shareholders. No doubt there will be some interesting questions and comments to be made to the directors of the company in relation to the way in which their actions and proposals are damaging to the Club.

At the time of writing, John Batchelor remains the 100% owner of York City Football Club and the Club Chairman (being one of just three directors). The situation regarding the ownership and operation of the Club has been frustrating to Trust representatives for several months, and even more so over the past few weeks. As described above, the Trust will continue to work to help ensure the supporters and the community have a club they can be proud of in years to come. The Trust will continue to display openness, honesty and integrity.

Without doubt, the Supporters Trust believes that it is possible to sustain a professional football club for the city of York. There are some hard times ahead, but with the support of the fans and the community, professional football in York will survive and prosper.

Support the Trust. Support a future for football in York.
