Trust Means Business

McGill boost to Trust's Rescue Package

The York City Supporters Trust has received a major boost to their fundraising efforts thanks to local businessman Jason McGill.

Jason, owner of J M Packaging Ltd based in Malton, confirmed today that he has pledged a five figure sum, in excess of 50,000, to the York City Supporters Trust to assist them in their quest to save City.

McGill, a life member of the Supporters Trust and a season ticket holder in the Popular Stand said,

The Trust is currently working towards submitting an offer to the Administrators to acquire the business and assets of the Club. They need funds desperately in order to succeed and I hope my pledge will encourage other business people to offer the Trust financial support. A professional football club in the region can only help and promote the economy of York and the surrounding area.

Jason, whose sister Sophie McGill is a board member of the Supporters Trust, said,

Both myself and the rest of my family care deeply about York City F.C. and like all true supporters, have followed the club through thick and thin. I believe if we want York City to survive and prosper for future generations, we must back the Trust fully in all their efforts to gain ownership of the club.

McGill stressed his pledge was not based on any expectation of profit or financial gain, only to assist the club he loves. He added,

The club will only be in safe hands once it is under the complete control and guidance of the Trust and true York City supporters. With a strong business plan and properly managed finances, there is no reason why York City should not have a sustainable future.

This pledge has now enabled the financial backing for the Trust to surpass the 200,000 figure, a significant landmark for the supporters organisation.

Steve Beck of the Supporters Trust said,

This is a great boost for the Trust as we move closer to our target of 500,000. The Supporters Trust has been a huge success so far, and with the financial support of local businesses, we can work together to ensure the survival of York City Football Club for the benefit of the community and the status of the city and region.

The Trust has established a special Save City Account, whereby individuals and businesses who make significant donations can do so in the knowledge that their money will only be used if the Trust becomes the legal owner of the business and assets of the Club. Donations can be made by cash/cheque/postal order or standing order payable to Munby & Scott -Save City Account (Royal Bank of Scotland Sort Code 16-34-80; Account number 10144317)

Alternatively, individuals and businesses can pledge their support. All pledges are being logged and, if the Trust becomes the legal owner of the business and assets of the Club, those pledges will be turned into cash to help save the Club.
